Lagomorpha: Leporidae
Lepus capensis
Early one morning, quietly waiting for birds in the Mallee, I was surprised by this hare which almost hopped right up to me. I thought at first it was a wallaby because of the sheer size of it and it made me think that I've never really seen a hare before.
It seemed so big that if it stood on two legs I think it could almost have put its fore-paws on my shoulders. I was amazed. There was no confusing this animal with a rabbit.
